In July 2010, the NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE will be held at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.  Held every four years, the Jamboree brings together 35,000 Scouts and Leaders in 800 full troops, supported by 5,000 other volunteers.

For ten days, the Jamboree becomes the 7th largest city in Virginia.  In this scouting “metropolis,” Scouts can complete merit badges from a selection of nearly 100.  They will also enjoy giant arena shows, patch trading, military demonstrations, and other exhibits.  There will be three huge Trading Posts and Action Centers.  Also, the President of the United States often makes an appearance at the National Jamboree.

WHEN & WHERE      Our adventure rolls out of Boston by motorcoach on Saturday, July 24, 2010 to the Washington, D.C. area, where tour highlights are planned.  The National Boy Scout Jamboree takes place July 26 – August 3, 2010 at Fort A.P. Hill, near Fredericksburg Virginia.  We will return to Boston on the evening of Wednesday, August 4, 2010

WHO CAN ATTEND  Any registered Scout who has completed the 6th grade or is at least 12 years of age and First Class by July 1, 2010, but has not reached his 18th birthday by August 3, 2010, can apply to attend.  Registration is on a space available basis.  Participation requires attendance at pre-Jamboree training experiences (including several pre-Jamboree meetings and a local contingent campout).  Note: The National Jamboree is a rugged, long-term camping experience, so strong outdoor skills make for a more positive experience.

THE CONTINGENT  The Boston Minuteman Council’s contingent will consist of at least three provisional Scout Troops. Each troop has four patrols of 8 Scouts, four scout leadership positions, and four adult leaders.  Participants are randomly assigned among the contingent troops. Brothers will be assigned to the same troop, but different patrols.

THE COST                Total cost is $1900 ($1850, early bird) per person and includes National Jamboree entry fee, the pre-Jamboree training experiences, round trip transportation, meals, and all the tents and troop gear necessary to have a grand time at the National Jamboree.  Not included are personal equipment, uniforms (two complete uniforms required), and spending money.  A monthly payment plan and limited scholarships will be available so the Jamboree experience can be available to all interested scouts.
